Erode: People living in the downstream of the Bhavanisagar dam have been alerted of the possible flooding in the Bhavani river as the water level in the dam is nearing its full capacity of 105ft.
The water resource department officials said once the dam attains the full capacity, the entire inflow would be released into the river. “As the inflow to the dam has increased due to rainfall in its catchment areas, the water level in the dam will reach its full capacity at any time. The entire surplus water would be released from the dam through the sluice gates into the river,” an official said.
The department also informed the district administration of the possible flooding and asked it to shift people living on the river banks and low lying areas to safe places.
