Don’t want more vendor zones, RWAs tell Noida

Traffic going to the Expressway from the Roundabout Chowk in the direction of Greater Noida can go from Roundabout Chowk to Rajnigandha Chowk and Sector 37.

Noida: The Noida RWA federation and some AOA’s opposed the decision to increase the strength of existing vending zones and hawkers without consultation with the area RWAs/AOAs. Residents complained that the move is leading to security and sanitation issues in the sectors. While the Noida CEO had earlier directed RWA consultations before the selection of the vendor zones, residents claim that the same is not being followed. Some of the problems areas include 34, 27, 29, 37, 62, 119 and more.

“The decision to increase vending zones in various sectors and to increase the number of hawkers in the established vending zones is being taken by the Noida Authority without consulting the RWAs and residents of the sectors. Many sectors like 34, 27, 29, 37, 62, 119 and more are facing problems of sanitation and security as a result of this,” said KK jain secretary general of Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), the umbrella body of over 180 RWA members.

Jain added that result of these changes in vendor zones is that the sectors are facing traffic snarls of 15-20 minutes every day.

” This matter was brought to the notice of the Noida Authority of CEO in a meeting held recently, and at that time the CEO issued necessary directives to the concerned officials to allot/ increase vending zones in consultation with the concerned RWAs. But that’s not being followed as the number hawkers and kiosks etc. are increasing day by day,” Jain said.

Vineet Mehra, a resident of Sector 119, tweeted a picture of a couple of cigarette shops in the sector of the Noida CEO asking if tobacco sales are promoted every 3 meters. “Girls are scared to cross this patch, as it leads to hooligans, drinking, eve teasing among others,” he said.
